Katy Harriger

Dr. Katy Harriger is a Professor in the Department of Politics and International Affairs at Wake Forest University, where she holds the F. Michael Crowley Distinguished Faculty Fellowship. She also serves as the Faculty Director for the university’s study away program in Washington DC. She teaches courses on American politics and American constitutional law.
She is the author of The Special Prosecutor in American Politics (2d ed, revised), and publishes generally in the area of separation of powers, with a particular interest in the tensions between executive power and the rule of law. She is the co-author with Louis Fisher of a two volume constitutional law textbook, American Constitutional Law. She has an additional research interest in the civic engagement of young people, and has published two co-authored books based on a longitudinal study of the impact of teaching students how to engage in deliberative dialogue.
Harriger was the co-chair of the committee that rewrote the AP American Government and Politics curriculum for the College Board, and served several additional years as co-chair of the test development committee for the revised AP exam in that area. At Wake Forest she has been the recipient of a number of campus-wide awards, including the Reid Doyle Prize for Excellence in Teaching, the John Reinhart Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Schoonmaker Faculty Prize for Community Service, the Excellence in Advising Award, and the Hubert Poteat Lecture for accomplishments in research. She has also served as a Faculty Fellow in first-year residence halls for five years.
